Artist Statement
Shaune Bazner
Abstract painting became a vital sanctuary for me more than a decade ago. It is a place where I can go freely and willingly. I have always loved the outdoors and absorb color, shape and texture as I drift through the woods or down the beach. I must have visual clarity around me to create and I have made my home as simple as possible to that end. A big, blank canvas can be daunting, the uncertainty and vast possibilities get my juices flowing. My motto is, keep it simple. Create a resting place for the eyes where you can turn off your mind and take in some peace.
I have been designing beaded jewelry and accessories for 30 years and still get transported when it's time to put the season's collections together. Possible color combinations and the selection of the moods and textures of the beads inspire me to go beyond where I have been before. Mixing paint is poetry in motion. Bead colors are already set. Paint colors are infinite.
